Helping our community tackle knife crime together
http://www.actionse17.org/
Action SE17 is currently being co-ordinated by InSpire a registered charity in Walworth. We are bringing together workers and organisations across the voluntary and statutory sector to pool our resources, expertise and experience in a SOLUTION focused way to help combat KNIFE CRIME in SE17. Our members include, schools, the police, youth services, regeneration services, community involvement, voluntary organisations and tras.

In 2009 we were awarded £481,000 in lottery funding following the work of the Action SE17 project.
We are developing projects in the fields of PREVENTION, DIVERSION and RE-EDUCATION
Our proposed projects include:
- Safe Zones – public buildings with trained staff where young people can seek help when they feel under threat
- Positive Profiles – a ward based advertising campaign celebrating the successes of our young people with clear sign posting to diversionary activities
- “Know the names of the kids in your street” - A campaign to encourage good neighbour behaviour
- Scheduled talks by the police about “Stop and Search”
- Asking retailers on Walworth Rd and surrounding areas not to sell knives
- Positive Parenting – Communication and conflict resolution skills training for parents of young people who are at risk
- A neighbourhood watch style window sticker campaign for 20,000 homes
Our projects will be guided by young people with on going consultation.
ACTION SE17 believe that the issues surrounding knife crime affect the WHOLE community and will be engaging all members of our community regardless of age.
Our aim is to make a difference, establish good practice across multi agency working and provide a template for other wards to follow.
